We’re glad you found us! Like you, we are Illinoisans concerned about the environment and learning more about what we, as individuals, can do to make a positive impact on our planet.
Sure — climate change, global warming, congressional debates and international summits are all over the news —but how do these things affect our daily lives?
If you’re concerned about energy consumption, then you might want to learn more about how you can get access to energy from greener sources, like the wind. If you’re a bird lover, you might be interested to find out that some scientists are worried about the impact of windmills on bird migrations. We’re here to share resources and cover all sides of the story on environmental issues, so that you can make more informed decisions and feel confident that your day-to-day behavior reflects your commitment to Planet Earth.
One easy way you will be able to keep track of your daily environmental impact is through a new technology called smart meters, which will allow you to keep track of your power consumption. Rather than estimated power bills —which are often too high — power companies will get readings of your actual energy use so that they only bill you for what you have used. And, smart meters will allow you to adjust when you use your power, so that you can find times when energy will be cheapest. You can find more information about how smart meters work here.
Smart meters are not available everywhere in Illinois yet — but they will be soon! We’ll keep track of the latest news on their availability and keep you up to date on when smart meters will be coming to your neighborhood.
