Who We Are

Smart Power Illinois is a campaign brought to you by the following organizations:

Illinois Science and Energy Innovation Foundation

The Illinois Science and Energy Innovation Foundation (ISEIF) was created to inform and engage Illinois consumers in the transformation to a digital electric grid. ISEIF accomplishes this through funding innovative education, outreach, and research projects in correspondence with smart meter deployment timelines.

Our mission is to empower consumers to understand and adopt smart grid technologies and related programs; to create positive changes in consumer behavior related to patterns of energy use; and to transform cultural norms regarding the relationship between the consumer, the utility and energy consumption.

Kindling Group

Kindling Group is a nonfiction media studio that crafts outstanding documentaries and impact campaigns to inspire, entertain, and ignite change. We are a three-year grantee of ISEIF, tasked with raising public awareness about how everyday consumers can benefit from Illinois’ new smart grid.

Illinois Green Economy Network

The Illinois Green Economy Network (IGEN) is a consortium of Illinois community colleges working to grow the green economy of Illinois. IGEN’s unique statewide cooperative approach leverages the power of a sustainability network with the deep community connections of individual colleges to expand deployment of clean energy technologies, increase employment opportunities, improve environmental and human health, foster community engagement, and accelerate market competitiveness. IGEN’s mission is to provide a platform for collaboration among all Illinois community colleges and their partners to drive growth of the green economy.

IGEN’s vision is the Illinois community college system as a global leader in transforming education and the economy for a sustainable future.

Citizens Utility Board

The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan consumer group that has spent the last three decades serving as the premier utility watchdog in Illinois. CUB has helped save ratepayers more than $20 billion by fighting rate hikes and winning refunds from the utilities. A new part of its mission is launching a statewide education campaign to help Illinois consumers learn how smart upgrades to the power grid can help them save energy and cut their utility bills.

Elevate Energy

Elevate Energy was formed in 2000 by the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT). It got its start organizing neighborhood-specific responses to address brownouts affecting the Chicago area. From there, Elevate Energy invented the concept of hourly electricity pricing programs for residential customers, piloted a program to prove it would work, and then helped pass a law to make it available to everyone in Illinois.

Elevate Energy’s mission is to help people do more with less energy by designing and implementing efficiency programs that lower costs, protect the environment, and ensure the benefits of energy efficiency reach those who need them the most.

Faith in Place

Faith in Place inspires people of diverse faiths to better care of the earth through connection, education, and advocacy programs. Faith in Place helps people connect their faith to living sustainably. This connection motivates positive behavior change among individuals, their homes, and their houses of worship.

Faith in Place was founded in 1999 in Chicago as a project at the Center for Neighborhood Technology and became independent in 2003. Faith in Place is having an impact all across the various geographies of Illinois.
